Access Control for Resource Library Types
Updated over a year ago

You can block access to the page by using the built in page control Thinkific provides for custom pages or keep the page accessible by all and use the built in access controls that the Resource Library provides for each resource type (recommended)

Page level access control

  • Open the custom page and select the small "cog" icon in the upper right hand corner

  • Choose an option to limit by signed in or enrollment status

Resource level access control

Each resource (or imported groups of resources) can include it's own level of access control. You can control whether the resource is viewable with a "tease" or if it will be hidden when the user does not have access to the resource. Access is determined by checking to see if the user is enrolled in Thinkific products (Course, Bundle, Community).

Upgrade Popups using the "Tease" method

When you have the access set to "Tease", the resource will always show in the list but when the user clicks on it, they will see an upgrade popup. You can have a default popup for all resources that is configured in the Resource Library section or you can have individual upgrade popups for each individual resource

Using the Library Upgrade Popup

If you want to offer "a common upgrade path" for any resource, then you would want to use this option for each of your resources. The information and call to action link for this popup is configured inside the Resource Library section

  • Open the Resource Library section and edit the Library Upgrade popup settings group. provide all of the needed information for text, media and call to action types

  • Be sure the CTA Type setting is set to "Library Popup CTA"

  • For each resource that has access control enabled, be sure to have the Tease action setting set to "Library Upgrade Popup"

Using the Resource Upgrade Popup

If you want have different popups and calls to actions for each individual resource, then you would want to use this method. The information and call to action link is configured inside the individual resource or import resource sections. This will always take prioriy over the Library Upgrade Popup.

  • For each resource that has access control enabled, be sure to have the Tease action setting set to "Resource Upgrade Popup"

  • Open the "Resource Upgrade Popup" settings group for that resource and provide all of the needed information for text, media and call to action types

Using a Combination Library and Resource Upgrade Popup

If you want to offer "two upgrade options" for any resource then you would use this option. This will show both the Library button and the resource popup button. This is useful when want to offer two upgrade options, ex: "Get this resource for $49 and get them all for $199"

  • For each resource that has access control enabled, be sure to have the Tease action setting set to "Library Upgrade Popup"

  • Open the Resource Library section and edit the Library Upgrade popup settings group. provide all of the needed information for text, media and call to action types

  • Be sure the CTA Type setting is set to "Combination Resource & Library"

Using a Custom Upgrade Popup

In this scenario, you would create your own custom popup element using the Custom Upgrade Popup section and then assign the resource CTA Type to associated to the Custom Upgrade Popup.

  • On your Resource Library page add a Custom Upgrade Popup section to the page and configure it's settings. Be sure to specify a unique id for each one of these on the page

  • Inside of each Resource Type section that you want to use this popup for the tease upgrade, be sure to

    • Set the Type of Access Restriction to Tease

    • Choose the Type of Condition along with the associated products

    • Change the Tease action to Custom Upgrade Popup

    • Enter the **Custom Popup ID to match the same id that you used in the Custom Upgrade Popup section
