Site Page Types
Updated over a week ago

Ok, let's make sure we are on the same page 🤣

We see that many people get tripped up with some key terminology when it comes to referencing different types of pages. This is important for many reasons:

  1. When you are selecting a "page" to link to for a button let's say, the Site Builder "Page Picker" will first ask for the "type". If you select the wrong one, your button will be linked to the wrong thing.

  2. Certain sections belong on certain page types and not others

  3. Each page works a bit differently from an API point of view and we may be limited in terms of what we can do.

So here we go let's get that straight:

Home Page

This one should be easy. It should actually be your home page,

your-site.thinkific.com

But one day, Thinkific added the ability to make any page type your home page. So now it practically could be anything. And if you are using Swiss Redirect PowerUp, then you can actually redirect this page to an external site (maybe you are using Thinkific just for a member experience and do not have you sales pages on Thinkific)

All Courses Page

your-site.thinkific.com/collections
your-site.thinkific.com/collections/category-name

This is the page that will show all of your products that are not hidden. It will also show your products by category. Thinkific treats them as "one page". Inside of Site Builder you can search for "All Courses" or filter by "Default Page" type.

ℹ️ NOTE: By default this page is "hard coded" to show six products at a time and only allows you to add new sections after the product listing. We like you to have more freedom to design this page as you wish, so most of our All Courses page templates will replace or hide the default section.

Student Dashboard Page

your-site.thinkific.com/enrollments

This page is what students will see when they log in. It is supposed to show only the courses and communities that the person is enrolled in. If the person is enrolled in a Bundle, then it just shows the courses that are included in the bundle, not the bundle itself. It often gets confused with "All Courses" and actually has some similar properties as noted below.

ℹ️ NOTE: By default this page is "hard coded" to show six products at a time and only allows you to add new sections after the end of the section. We like you to have more freedom to design this page as you wish, so most of our Student Dashboard page templates will replace or hide the default section.

Course Page

your-site.thinkific.com/courses/my-course-name

Ok, this page type often gets confused with the next one when we mention it. When we say "Course Page" and also when you see "Course Page" in the page picker on a section setting, it is referring to the landing page for the course. This is where people learn about the course, but not where they do the learning. So if you really want the other one, then read below.

Course Player

your-site.thinkific.com/courses/take/course-name/lessons/12345-lesson-name

This "course page" that we are talking about here is the course player page. This is where some watches your lessons and does the learning. The course player page does not show up in Site Builder even though it is part of your site. Weird right? Well, we do have some PowerUps that allow you to still control what happens inside the course experience. So don't worry about that - we have you covered.

Be sure to check the guide on getting the url of a lesson inside of a course

Bundle Page

The Bundle Page is pretty straight forward. This is the landing page for the bundle. It is the page where people will learn about the bundle and what is included.

Community Page

Ok, this one is a bit confusing. Because when you are inside of Site Builder and choosing a page from the page picker. It shows an option for "Community Page"

But what this really means, is the landing page for the community - the one people would see if you were offering a community as a product.

It is not the page for the actual community. For that check below

"Actual" Community Page aka "Share Link"

For the "actual" community page that you will most likely want to use in one of our PowerUps, is the link that students will use to get into the actual community. You know, the place where they can comment and post.

To get the "actual" community page you have to go into the Community listing page and click the three dots to copy the Share Link
